Fall 2018 Cooking Demonstrations

All of our scheduled cooking demonstrations cost $10, take place in the Demonstration Kitchen, and are open to Purdue Affiliates only. Sign up at the Member Services desk, fill out the online registration form, or by calling 765.494.3109.

The Demonstration Kitchen strives to make cooking accessible to everyone, by demonstrating delicious recipes and menus that are quick, easy and affordable. We provide a variety of demonstrations and programs in order to accommodate varying interests, ages, and abilities. Our Student Cooking Instructors will provide you with nutrition information, culinary techniques, and food sanitation guidelines. You will also have the opportunity to sample the dishes prepared during the demonstration you attend. Recipes cards are provided.

ONE POT MEALS
Wednesday, September 5, 7-8pm
Love cooking but hate washing dishes? Sick of using multiple pots and pans? If you answered yes, this is the cooking demo for you! Each of these recipes are made using only one pot or pan. Recipes include Homemade Gumbo, Open-Faced Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, and Thai Curry with Noodles. 

5 INGREDIENT FOODS
Monday, September 10, 7-8pm
Just imagine a delicious and nutritious recipe with only five ingredients...This cooking demonstration focuses on preparing quick, easy, and affordable meals with minimal ingredients. Recipes include Grilled Bruschetta Chicken, Cinnamon Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Parmesan Green Beans, and Sautéed Apples with Granola. 

CURRY IN A HURRY
Tuesday, September 18, 7-8pm
Interested in learning how to make Indian dishes authentic and healthy? Looking to try new herbs and spices? Explore Indian cuisine in this exciting cooking demonstration. Recipes will include Baked Chicken Breasts with Cilantro Mint Chutney, Fall Vegetable Curry, and Indian Ancient Grain Salad. 

MIDWESTERN CLASSICS
Wednesday, September 26, 7-8pm
This class will provide local, budget friendly, recipes, and will also discuss tips for saving money when you cook and shop for groceries. Learn how to make Thyme and Dijon Crusted Pork Tenderloin, Parmesan Cornmeal Mash, Sautéed Zucchini Walnut Bread. 

COMFORT FOODS REDESIGNED
Tuesday, October 2, 7-8pm
Learn how to give your favorite comfort foods a makeover so they are guilt-free and still delicious! This class will demonstrate how to make Honey Cayenne Chicken Tenders, Spinach Mac and Cheese, and Carrot Cake Cookies. 

ROMANTIC RECIPES FOR TWO
Monday, October 15, 7-8pm
With Sweetest Day right around the corner, this cooking demonstration will provide the necessary skills to create a delicious and romantic meal for your sweetheart. Recipes include Marinated Steak and Avocado Garlic Sauce, Greek Yogurt Mashed Potatoes, Spinach Salad with Fresh Raspberries and Pecans, and Chocolate Lava Cakes. 

DINE LIKE THE DUTCH
Wednesday, October 24, 7-8pm
Do you love trying new food from different cultures but can't afford to travel? Have you ever heard of gehaktbal? Come to this cooking demonstration to learn about Dutch culture and try some traditional dishes straight from the heart of Amsterdam. Cozy up in our kitchen and taste some delicious Dutch comfort food including Dutch-style meatballs, Hete Bliksem- a potato dish, and much more! 

RESTAURANT MEALS AT HOME
Monday, October 29, 7-8pm
Tired of dining out all the time? Sick of wasting your money on takeout? Learn how to make your favorite restaurant dishes at home by coming to this demo! Recipes include Bruschetta, Creamy Fettuccini Alfredo, Lemon Garlic Spinach, Salad, and New York Style Cheesecake. 

WOK YOUR WORLD
Monday, November 5, 7-8pm
Interested in expanding your palate into the world of Asian cuisine? Come to this demo and let us "wok your world" with some simple dishes to incorporate into your everyday routine. Recipes include Vegetarian Pot Stickers, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Three Ingredient Green Tea Ice Cream. 

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS
Wednesday, November 7, 7-8pm
Try a unique twist on the most important meal of the day at this cooking demonstration! Learn quick and easy recipes to help jumpstart your day. Recipes include Apple Pancake Casserole, Asparagus and Cheese Popovers with Spicy Herb Oil, and Flourless Banana Oatmeal Pancakes. 

COOKING WITH QUNOA
Tuesday, November 13, 7-8pm
Quinoa is a gluten-free grain rich in protein, iron, and fiber. This class will demonstrate a variety of creative recipes, designed to help you incorporate this "super food" into you cooking routine. Recipes include Sweet Quinoa Breakfast Casserole, Peanut Butter and Nutella Quinoa Bites, and a Quinoa Protein Bowl. 

BRAIN FOODS FOR FINALS
Tuesday, December 4, 7-8pm
Struggling to get through study hours and need some extra energy? Come learn about foods that can increase brain activity, help you power through studying, and leave you feeling energized for the next day! Recipes for this demo include Vegetable Frittata with Avocado Herb Sauce, Mixed Nut Butter, Baked Parmesan Kale Chips, and Black Bean Brownies. 

Wednesday, July 25 6-7pm
Super Foods are nutrient-rich foods that are considered to be particulary good for your health and well-being. This demonstration will show you how to make recipes using a variety of super foods, such as Baked Parmesan Kale Chips, PB&J Smoothie, Thai Peanut Slaw, and Blueberry Scones.  

Crockpot Complete Meals for Four

All of our crockpot cooking classes will return in Spring 2019. Please check back in November for more details on class infromation.
