Spring 2019 Cooking Demonstrations

All of our scheduled cooking demonstrations cost $10, take place in the Demonstration Kitchen, and are open to Purdue Affiliates only. Sign up at the Member Services desk, fill out the online registration form, or by calling 765.494.3109.

The Demonstration Kitchen strives to make cooking accessible to everyone, by demonstrating delicious recipes and menus that are quick, easy and affordable. We provide a variety of demonstrations and programs in order to accommodate varying interests, ages, and abilities. Our Student Cooking Instructors will provide you with nutrition information, culinary techniques, and food sanitation guidelines. You will also have the opportunity to sample the dishes prepared during the demonstration you attend. Recipes cards are provided.

PROTEIN SHAKES & SNACKS
Wednesday, Jan. 16, 7-8pm
Want the inside scoop on how to refuel properly before/after exercise? Learn how to incorporate protein into a delicious shake or snack at this demonstration. Recipes include Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie, Homemade Cliff Bars, Vanilla Bean Smoothie, Blueberry Pineappple Dream Smoothie, and Orange-Peach Smoothie. 

CLEAN EATING
Monday, Jan. 28, 7-8pm
Interested in learning how to make recipes at home from scratch? Check out this cooking demonstration to learn the tips and tricks! Recipes will include Homemade Crunchy Peanut Butter, Baked Tortilla Chips, Guacamole, and Dark Chocolate Banana Soft Serve.  

DECADENT DESSERTS
Tuesday, Feb. 5, 7-8pm
Calling all dessert lovers! Satisfy you sweet tooth at this cooking demonstration and learn the meaning of Everything in Moderation! Recipes will include a Caramel Pear Crisp, Black Bean Brownies, Choco-Coffee Cupcakes, and Hazelnut Chocolate Caramel Lattes.  

ROMANTIC RECIPES FOR TWO
Wednesday, Feb.13, 7-8pm
With Valentine's Day right around the corner, this cooking demonstration will provide the necessary skills to create a delicious and romantic meal for your sweetheart. Recipes include Marinated Steak with Avocado Garlic Sauce, Greek Yogurt Mashed Potatoes, Spinach Salad with Fresh Raspberries and Pecans, and Chocolate Lava Cake. 

SUPER FOODS
Monday, Feb. 18, 7-8pm
This cooking demonstration will put a twist on traditional recipes by incorporating nutrient-dense foods! Recipes include Baked Parmesan Kale Chips, PB&J Kale Smoothie, Blueberry Scones, and Thai Peanut Slaw.  

GLUTEN-FREE FOODS
Tuesday, Feb. 26, 7-8pm
Gluten is a protein found in a variety of foods and following a gluten-free diet can be challenging. This class will provide information about foods you already eat that are gluten-free and help you find substitutes for gluten-containing foods you can enjoy. Recipes include Cauliflower Pizza Crust, Parmesan Zucchini fries, and Gluten-Free Lemon Bars. 

SUPER SALADS
Tuesday, March 5, 7-8pm
What comes to mind when you think of a typical salad? Gain the courage and skills to break the salad stereotype at this cooking demonstration by creating salads without the lettuce! Recipes include a Tabbouleh Salad, Asian Salad, and Roasted Vegetable Salad. 

MEDITERRANEAN MEALS
Thursday, March 21, 7-8pm
What foods are commonly found in a Mediterranean diet? Come find out at this cooking demonstration! Recipes include Homemade Hummus, Baked Tilapia with Tomatoes and Fresh Herbs, Couscous with Nuts and Dried Fruit, Honey Peaches Stuffed with Ricotta and Almonds, and Non-Alcoholic Sangria. 

OUTTA THIS WORLD - Purude 150 Years of Giant Leaps Demo
Monday, March 25, 7-8pm
Celebrate 150 years of giant leaps at this space themed demo. Reciped include Spinach Salad with Apples and Astronuts, a Mac and Moon Cheese Bake, Homemade Moon Pies, and Tang Smoothies.  

RESTAURANT MEALS MADE AT HOME
Thursday, March 28, 7-8pm
Tired of dining out? Sick of wasting your money on takeout? Learn how to make your favorite restaurant dishes at home at this demo! Recipes include Bruschetta, Creamy Fettuccini Alfredo, Lemon Garlic Spinach Salad, and New York Stule Cheesecake. 

WOK YOUR WORLD
Wednesday, April 3, November 13, 7-8pm
Interested in expanding your palate into the world of Asian cuisine? Come to this demo and let us "wok your world" with some simple dishes to incorporate into your everyday routine. Recipes include Vegetarian Pot Stickers, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Three Ingredient Green Tea Ice Cream. 

VEGETARIAN MEALS
Tuesday, April 9, 7-8pS
Did you know that a vegetarian meal can include more than fruits and vegetables? Check out how to make unique recipes at this cooking demonstration! Recipes include Vegetable Quiche, White Bean Dip, and Spinach and Sundried Tomato Calzones.  

BRAIN FOODS FOR FINALS
Tuesday, April 23, 7-8pm
Struggling to get through study hours? Need extra energy? Come learn about foods to help brain activity, help you power through studying, and leave you feeling energized for the next day! Recipes include Vegetable Frittata with Avocado and Herb Sauce, Mixed Nut Butter, Baked Parmesan Kale Chips, and Black Bean Brownies. 

Crockpot Complete Meals for Four

Who wants to be cooped up in a hot kitchen after a long and busy week? Let our Cooking Instructors solve the problem of “what’s for dinner?” by helping you with your Friday night dinner plans. We take care of the menu planning and shopping, you get to help with prep and leave with a yummy meal for four! All this for just $20- that’s only $5 per serving! Perfect for a big group, a family, or leftovers for the weekend. Recipes are made in a crockpot, so remember to bring yours from home! No crockpot? No worries! Bring along a container to take your meal with you and cook at home when ready!

Held on Fridays from 12:15-12:45pm
