Group X

Staying healthy in body, brain and spirit is a life-long journey. So, why not make it a group thing and have people by your side to cheer you on! Our Group X classes offer the hottest music, workouts backed by exercise science and rock star instrcutors to help you reach your wellbeing goals. With over 50 classes a week and a variety of class options, you are sure to find your soulmate workout.

Group X is my favorite place to be on campus. I can de-stress, get a great workout in and be around people that have similar goals.

Buy Your Group X Pass & Make a Reservation

Join the fun and purchase an unlimited semester pass for $60, or a day pass for $5 at our online member portal.

Unlimited pass holders can reserve their spot in class up to 48 hours in advance. Reserve your spot in class using the Purdue RecWell app for iphone or android.

Need to cancel your reservation? No worries, you have until 30 minutes prior to the start of class to cancel. Log in to your profile at the online member portal to change your reservation. Be sure to cancel your reservation to avoid being marked as a "no show". Read more about our Failure to Cancel Policy here

Group X Pass Options

Unlimited Group X Pass
The $60 unlimited pass allows for an unlimited number of visits and the ability to pre-register for classes (save your spot) up to 48 hours in advance.
Day Pass

The $5 day pass provides access to one single class; present your receipt to the instructor. Purchase your pass on the day you would like to attend. Example: To purchase class access to a cycling class on Wednesday 9/2, a day pass would need to be purchased on Wednesday, 9/2.

Please note: An active CoRec membership is required to purchase Group X passes. 

Class Descriptions


Total Boody Strength fuses cardiovascular, strength and core training into one super-charged workout. This workout will target major muscle groups utilizing various workouts from week to week.

Tabata is a form of high intensity interval training that produces remarkable results in both aerobic and anaerobic capacity. Each Tabata workout will consist of a warm-up, total body exercises using intervals and a cool down. Your instructor will wrap up the class with core strength and flexibility.

BODYPUMP™ is the original barbell class that shapes, tones and strengthens your entire body. The key to BODYPUMP™ is THE REP EFFECT™, a breakthrough in fitness training focusing on high repetition movements with low weight loads. This will help you achieve strength and introduce lean body muscle conditioning.

This is a 30-minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, designed to improve strength, cardiovascular fitness and build lean muscle. This workout uses barbell, weight plate and bodyweight exercises to blast all major muscle groups.

This 30-minute core-training workout that uses your body weight, resistance tubing and weights to tighten and tone your midsection. Exercises are designed to improve your functional strength for better mobility and injury prevention

This class focus on cardio-respiratory endurance and full-body strength. We utilize different areas of the recreation center to give participants various learning environments each week. Learn to train using bodyweight exercises like squats, lunges and push-ups in addition to exercise equipment like TRX, Bosu, Kettle Bells, Resistance Bands, Speed Ladder, Synergy 360 (Mezzanine Jungle Gym) and Atrium Track etc. Try this circuit training style to take your workout to the next level!


Barre is a total body sculpting workout based on ballet barre exercises.  This class is designed to balance, strengthen and tone the entire body.  Each class will include several highly effective sequences of toning and resistance exercises, with an emphasis on the core, arms, hips and thighs. Through the use of the ballet barre, light weights and various props, students will begin with small movements and progress to larger, more complex movements. This technique protects your joints as it does not involve any bouncing or jumping. Each strength section of the workout is followed by a stretching section in order to develop long, lean muscles without bulk. This class is open to 30 participants.

This class is a hybrid, athletic workout inspired by the mind/body practices of Yoga and Pilates, as well as the principles of sports stretch, strength training, conditioning, and dynamic movement.  Moves utilize energy, power and rhythm that is music driven, fun and challenging. It is a unique class designed to build strength and gain flexibility. No previous Yoga or Pilates experience required. 

Mindfulness is awareness that comes from "paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally" - Jon Kabat-Zinn. It involves everything from eating, exercise, relationships, thoughts and feelings. Mindfulness can help with feelings of being overwhlemed, stressed or anxious. This FREE class offers a guided meditation to disconnect and create awareness relieving stress and working toward reducing the feeling of anxiety.

This introductory class is your perfect entry point into pilates. Pilates is a system of controlled exercises that engage the mind and condition the body. The blend of strength and flexibility training improves posture, reduces stress and creates long, lean muscles. In this class you will learn the basic series of exercises upon which the Pilates method is built. Participants will be provided with a variety of intensity options for all exercises. 

Breathe through movement! This yoga class involves movement synchronized to the breath. Participants will be guided with all levels to flow through yoga poses that run together. All levels are welcome to relax the mind, body and soul.  Kick it up a notch with Power Yoga, where you will increase heart rate and flow through dynamic movement. 

Originally developed in ancient China for self-defense, Tai chi is sometimes described as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle movements — connecting the mind and body. In this class you will perform a series of postures or movements in a slow, graceful manner that when combined together form a short “dance.”  This class will include specific exercises from within the Dao Yin Yang Sheng Gong system. The slow circular movements, blended with deep breathing, help to decrease stress, increase range of motion, improve flexibility and balance and cultivate a sense of well-being.


This high-energy fitness class with moves that cater for total beginners to total addicts. We combine athletic movements like running, lunging and jumping with strength exercises such as push-ups and squats.

This high-energy martial arts-inspired workout that is totally non-contact. Punch and kick your way to fitness. No experience needed. Learn moves from Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Muay Thai, Capoeira and Kung Fu.

In a BODYSTEP workout you can expect a mixture of upbeat, rhythmic stepping, with squat and lunge patterns to work the legs. Combine this with movements like burpees, push ups and weight plate exercises, and the result is a fun, uplifting, full-body workout! Don’t worry, there’s heaps of options so that everyone leaves feeling successful.

This introductory class is your perfect entry point into cycling.  Take a ride over hills and across flat roads with a variety of sprints and intervals. You are given the control to adjust your resistance to your fitness level but be prepared to work hard. This class will review bike set-up and proper alignment for beginners. All levels are welcome. 

Channel your inner performer and rock your body with this modern-day fusion of movement and music. Pound fuses easy to follow cardio moves with Pilates, isometric movements, & and yoga-based poses into a cardio strength workout, all while drumming with RIPStix. This combo works the entire body, raises the heart rate and forces each move to be as precise as a basic beat.

This group fitness class combines martial arts techniques with fast-paced cardio. This high-energy workout challenges the beginner and elite athlete alike. Build stamina, improve coordination and flexibility, and burn calories as you build lean muscle with this fun and challenging workout.


WERQ is the fiercely fun dance fitness class based on pop, rock, and hip hop music. The warm-up previews the dance steps used in class and the cool-down includes balance and yoga-inspired poses. Sing along and move to the music as we ROCK OUT, WERQ OUT in this dance fitness inspired cardio workout. No dance experience required.

Ditch the workout and join the party! This Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class incorporates Latin and international music and dance moves, creating a dynamic, exciting, exhilarating and effective workout. This class – known as a “fitness party” – combines fast and slow rhythms of cumbia, merengue,salsa, reggaeton, hip-hop, pop, mambo, rumba, flamenco, calypso and salsaton to help tone and sculpt the body with easy to follow dance moves!  No dance experience required.


This water exercise class takes place in our rec pool and incorporates cardio, strength and core training movements - all at your own pace.  Challenge your body, improve flexibility and endurance and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of water exercise. This total body workout is open to all fitness levels and encouraged as a starting point for water based fitness classes.

Grab your swimsuit and head to the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. This warm water exercise program takes place in our 86 degree diving well and incorporates cardio, strength and core training movements, using flotation belts, water dumbbells, noodles and the resistance of the water.  Challenge your body, improve flexibility and endurance and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of water exercise. This total body workout is open to all fitness levels.

Outdoor Classes (NEW)

In late March, we will offer group x classes outdoors. See our full Group X schedule for days and times.

  • Classes on the Gold Fields with be cancelled in the event of any kind of rain. 
  • Classes on the Band Fields will be cancelled in the event of thunder or lightning.
  • For class cancellations, we will send a push notification through the app, post on social media and email all registered participants. We'll make this call 60 minute prior to start time.
