RecWell Breaks Ground on New Outdoor Pickleball and Tennis Complex

Construction has officially begun on the new outdoor pickleball and tennis complex, an exciting first step in transforming outdoor recreation on campus. This project marks Phase 1 of the RecWell Outdoor Master Plan, setting the foundation for a modern, thoughtfully designed space that will serve students and the community for years to come.

When the complex opens in Fall 2026, it will bring a completely reimagined experience for both pickleball and tennis players. The new facility is designed to support everything from casual play to competitive matches, all within a cohesive, high-quality environment that reflects the growing demand for outdoor recreation.

To make way for construction, the current outdoor pickleball courts, tennis courts sand volleyball courts, and the adjacent pickleball parking lot are now closed. While the existing sand volleyball courts will not return in this phase, additional courts are planned for future phases of the Outdoor Master Plan, part of our larger vision to expand and elevate outdoor activity options across RecWell.

A conceptual rendering of the planned facility offers a glimpse into what’s ahead, though final details may evolve as construction progresses. What remains constant is the goal: to create a premier outdoor destination that matches the energy and enthusiasm of the RecWell community and provide a space where social connections can flourish.

As Phase 1 of the Outdoor Master Plan moves forward, additional phases of the Outdoor Master Plan will continue to expand and enhance outdoor recreation opportunities. Each step builds toward a more complete, connected outdoor experience.
