Confined Space
There are numerous confined spaces (pits, manholes, tanks, etc.) on Purdue University’s campuses. Many are added during new construction and renovations. If your job requires you to enter a confined space, you must follow certain procedures to ensure your safety. The guidelines and procedures can be found in the Purdue University Confined Space Program. If you and/or your group need to know more, contact Industrial Hygiene with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS).

Electrical Safety
The Electrical Safety Program (ESP) was created to comply with electrical system regulatory requirements to ensure that energized electrical work at Purdue University is performed safely by qualified electrical workers who are provided with appropriate safe work procedures, protective equipment and other controls. It is intended to protect employees against electricity-related hazards. These hazards include electrical shock and burns, arc flash burns, arc-blast impacts, falls and other potential electrical safety hazards. Working on equipment in a de-energized state is required unless de-energizing introduces an increased hazard or is infeasible (e.g. voltage testing to troubleshoot).

Mobile Elevating Work Platform
The purpose of this program is to promote the safe use of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) and prevent accidents, personal injuries and property damage resulting from their use. This document provides the requirements for MEWPs application, inspection, training, maintenance, repair and safe operation as well as the responsibilities of users, operators, supervisors and occupants.
