OUR Data & Reporting

Since fall 2017,
over 22,000 students
participated in at least one undergraduate research experience.

Are your students included in this count?

*Reporting fall 2017 through summer 2024

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) curates datasets and these reports to enable campus stakeholders to obtain information about undergraduate student researchers at Purdue University. Data used to create these reports are based on all undergraduate research experiences identified by the OUR or reported to the OUR since fall 2017. OUR reporting undercounts experiences overall but we do use every data source available to us that defines the student, their experience (e.g., program/project within a specific time period), and their mentor(s).

We encourage all campus units to share their data with us! All shared data will be added to the OUR dataset and included then reported back to stakeholders within campus divisions (e.g., college/school). Click here to learn more!

If you are using and/or taking reported information from the OUR, please read carefully and understand the following clarifications about OUR reporting and contact us with questions:

  • What is the definition and scope of undergraduate research? Please refer to these definitions about undergraduate research
  • Are you taking information from any reports for your own professional uses? Please contact the OUR first; we may have updated information not yet published.
  • Are OUR reports the “final” version? No, these reports are never final. Everything reported is up to date based on the most recent published date, but reporting (even about prior terms) could change when we receive additional data about undergraduate research experiences. We periodically publish updated reporting when we get additional data sources. Information for the current academic year will definitely change; older reporting will change when new information improves accuracy. For these reasons, if you pull results out of this report for other uses, please include a statement similar to:
"This report is based on all data available to the Office of Undergraduate Research at this time. Reported information (including historical) can/will change when additional data are provided to the OUR by campus partners."
