Tableau Accessibility

Accessible Items

Many items and objects in the Tableau workspace support keyboard navigation and are compatible with assistive technologies like screen reading software. You can use the following items on a dashboard you want to be accessible:

  • Add dashboard objects and set their options
    • Text objects
    • Web page objects
    • Button objects
    • Image objects
  • Toolbar
  • Dashboard titles
  • Views, specifically:
    • Title
    • Workbook tabs
    • View Data window
    • Captions (when visible)
    • Categorical legends
    • Single and multi-value filters
  • Filter modes:
    • Single Value (List)
    • Multiple Value (List)
    • Single Value (drop-down)
    • Multiple Value (drop-down)

Suggested Formatting

  • Remove Shading
    • Format > Dashboard > Dashboard Shading (None)
  • Use Dark Fonts 
    • Format > Workbook > Fonts > All (Black)
  •  Data Grouping (View)
  •  Use Color Blind Color Palettes
  • Add Shapes to charts
    • On the marks card, select the bottom tab, titled [Field Name]. Select Shape from the drop down menu in the Marks card.
  • Use Filters to reduce number of marks:
    • Remove "All" Option if not applicable:
      • Select Filter
      • Customize > Show "All" Value
  • Add captions to legends
    • Right Click Chart
    • More Option (down arrow) > Caption
