Warning Signs
Construction Safety, Abatement and Remediation
What to Know When Signs are Present
During construction projects, certain sidewalks, entrances and exits may be temporarily affected. When this happens, signage will be posted to guide you safely around the work zone.
- A NO EXIT sign means the door is not safe to use under any circumstances. The doorway, hardware or even the stairwell beyond it may be under repair or removed. Please avoid the area and use an alternate route.
- A door marked EMERGENCY EXIT ONLY or with other emergency-evacuation signage remains available for use only during an emergency. While contractors must stop work in an emergency, hazards may still be present, so these doors should not be used for regular access.
- A SIDEWALK CLOSED sign indicates that pedestrian traffic is restricted. Do not continue along the sidewalk, choose another route instead. Longer-term projects typically include posted detour routes; for short-notice or emergency work, simply avoid the area and seek a safe alternate path.
Please do not move signs, enter restricted areas or use closed doors or walkways. These areas are limited to authorized personnel and may only be accessed by Purdue project managers and contractors.
