Power Tool Use
Construction Safety, Abatement and Remidiation
Knowing Your Tool Safety
- Always read the manual before operating any power tool. Important information on hazards and proper use can be found there.
- If the tool has a cord, ensure there is no damage to the insulation and that the ground pin is present. Some tools use internal grounding, so a pin may not always be present. Again, reference the manual.
- Never remove any guarding that comes with a tool. Not only is it hazardous, altering the tool will void the warranty and legal liability.
- Wear appropriate PPE including, but not limited to, safety glasses and gloves. If sparks may be generated, ensure this will not ignite a fire of any flammable materials nearby.
- Larger items such as grinding wheels, saws and drill presses are bolted to the floor to prevent the object moving during operation. Long hair and any clothing should be tied back to prevent entanglement in machinery.
