Odor from Construction
Construction Safety, Abatement and Remidiation
What to Know When Certain Odors are Present
- Occasionally construction work will include activities like painting, welding, staining or applying epoxy to floors.
- If these activities occur, contractors are required to mitigate odors via engineering controls such as barrier walls, negative air units with charcoal filters or other containment and/or neutralization efforts.
- Notifications of such work will also be given by the building deputy via email. Please check these for any vital information.
- If the precautions are not enough for containment and neutralization, contact EHS immediately so someone will visit the area to take air quality readings and to ensure contractors are following all necessary precautions.
- If building occupants have a hypersensitivity to agents used for a project, contact your supervisor to see if temporary changes can be made to your personal works.
