Indoor Construction Hazards
Construction Safety, Abatement and Remediation
When Work Moves Inside
With construction projects taking place year-round, it’s important to stay aware of potential safety hazards. While every effort is made to protect employees and minimize disruption, please keep the following in mind:
Noise: You may occasionally hear noise from power tools, jackhammers or other equipment. Most noisy work is scheduled outside of normal hours, but if it occurs during your shift and becomes disruptive, please contact Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to report the concern.
Trip Hazards: Cords, tools or materials should never block hallways or common areas, but these situations can happen. If you encounter an obstruction, avoid the area and notify your supervisor, building deputy or EHS so it can be addressed quickly.
Odors: Paint, adhesives and other materials used in construction can sometimes produce strong odors. EHS works with project teams to minimize exposure using non-permeable barriers and air filtration units.
A great deal of planning goes into every construction project to help ensure the health and safety of the campus community. If you have concerns about work taking place near your workspace, please contact EHS for assistance.
