There has been an increase in coyote sightings in Lafayette, Indiana, as reported by WLFI.com and Lafayette Journal & Courier. Due to harvested crops, the coyotes do not have their usual cover, and it is close to their breeding season which increases sightings. Coyotes are known to enter the city, so keeping pet food inside and all trash secure in closed containers will aid in less sightings. They may also prey on small mammals including pets but rarely attack people. There have been a few incidents in the Lafayette area involving coyotes attacking two small dogs which were taken to an animal hospital, as reported by WLFI.com.
