The Student Consumer Regulations of the United States Department of Education require universities to provide students access to specific information that they are entitled to as consumers. Purdue University annually distributes student consumer information via email to all enrolled students.

Borrowers in the Federal Direct Educational Loan Program may be eligible for deferred payment provisions for service in the Peace Corps, service under the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973 or comparable volunteer services for a tax-exempt organization in community service. Borrowers should seek applications and detailed information from their Loan Servicer. 

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords eligible students certain rights with respect to their educational records. They include the right to: 

  • Inspect and review his or her own educational records within 45 days of the request 
  • Request an amendment to their education records 
  • Provide written consent before personally identifiable information is disclosed, except when FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent 
  • File a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education for alleged failure by Purdue University to comply with FERPA requirements 

The Division of Financial Aid is the primary source of information about institutional need-based and non-need-based financial assistance at Purdue University. Descriptions of available federal, state, institutional and outside sources of assistance, eligibility criteria and methods of disbursement, and the terms and conditions of the types of aid, including information on loan entrance and exit counseling, cost of attendance descriptions and information on student employment opportunities are available on our website and within select campus publications.
