Internship Program Admissions

Briefly describe in narrative form important information to assist potential applicants in assessing their likely fit with your program. This description must be consistent with the program’s policies on intern selection and practicum and academic preparation requirements:

The training team actively seeks applicants whose goals represent a fit with our program's aims, goals,and training philosophy. Please review the description of our training program for an understanding of the wide range of experiences we provide to determine if these experiences represent match with your desired internship experience.

Our specific admissions requirements are:

  • Candidates for internship must have completed all formal requirements towards candidacy in a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in an APA-accredited counseling or clinical psychology program.
  • All course work necessary for the title of doctoral candidate including any comprehensive exams.
  • Acceptance of dissertation proposal by dissertation committee no later than the APPIC ranking deadline.
  • A minimum of three years of graduate training within an APA-Accredited (or CPA-Accredited) program.
  • A minimum of 500 cumulative supervised hours in direct clinical service as defined by APPIC criteria.
    • At least 400 direct therapy hours, with no less than 300 accrued during your doctoral program.
    • All hours must be accumulated no later than the APPIC ranking deadline.
    • Due to Purdue University regulations, a criminal background check must be passed (see How to Apply for more information).

Other Benefits (please describe)

Purdue offers a minimum of 10 paid university holidays, dental and vision insurance. Each intern has their own office equipped with a computer, printer access, internet access and digital recording technology. CAPS funds interns for two conferences (registration, travel and lodging) contingent upon ongoing University professional development funds including a diversity conference and the annual Big 10 Counseling Centers Conference. Interns are also supported to attend three joint day-long seminars with other Indiana university interns and an internship retreat with these schools at the end of the year. As Purdue University employees, interns have Purdue email accounts, business cards, access to library resources and discounts at local merchants.

In 2020, Purdue asked for a one year hiatus for the program due to changes in structure and administration. Thus the cohort is only 6.
