What is the LEAG Annual Meeting?

The Lunar Exploration Analysis Group (LEAG) Annual Meeting brings together members of the lunar science and exploration community to discuss the current state of lunar exploration, share research and mission updates, and identify future priorities for lunar science, technology, and exploration activities.

What topics are being accepted?

LEAG welcomes abstracts in the following areas:

1. Lunar Science and Cross-Disciplinary Studies

2. Commercial Lunar Science and Exploration

3. Artemis and Human-Enabled Exploration Activities

4. Lunar Exploration: Moon Bases, Robotic Exploration, Resource Evaluation, and Sustainable Development

5. New Developments in Lunar Instruments

6. Workforce Development: Mission Design Seminars for Planetary and Space Science

What is Theme 6?

Theme 6 is a poster-only session focused on workforce development and educational initiatives. LEAG especially encourages submissions from:

1. Planetary and space science seminars

2. Engineering and mission design courses

3. SciAct teams

4. Student-led projects

5. Early-career design concepts

This session provides an opportunity for undergraduate students, graduate students, and early-career professionals to showcase innovative concepts and project work.

Is there an abstract template?

Yes. A suggested abstract template is available on the event website. However, contributors may use other formats if preferred.

Will there be a poster session?

Yes. In-person attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an on-site poster session.

Awards

What is the LEAG Service Award?

The LEAG Service Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exemplary service to the lunar science and exploration community and significant contributions to LEAG.

What types of service are recognized?

Examples include:

1. Excellence in leadership

2. Mentoring and support of the community

3. Contributions to the early-career community

4. Service on LEAG committees

5. Advocacy for lunar science, exploration, and the LEAG community

When are nominations due?

August 14, 2026

What does the award recipient receive?

The recipient will be recognized during the LEAG Annual Meeting and invited to give a presentation on a topic of their choosing on the first day of the meeting.

Travel Grants

Are travel grants available?

Yes. Several travel support opportunities are available for eligible students and early-career researchers.

What is the Larry Taylor Travel Fund?

The Larry Taylor Travel Fund, sponsored by USRA/LPI, provides travel support for students attending the LEAG Annual Meeting.

Who is eligible for the Larry Taylor Travel Fund?

Applicants must:

1. Be undergraduate or graduate students

2. Be affiliated with a U.S. institution

3. Travel to LEAG from within the United States

When is the application deadline?

What is the Bernard Ray Hawke Next Lunar Generation Career Development Award?

Sponsored by SSERVI, this award provides travel support to outstanding early-career researchers to attend the LEAG Annual Meeting and continue their professional development within the lunar exploration community.

Who is eligible for the Bernard Ray Hawke Award?

Researchers who are within five years of receiving their Ph.D. or highest terminal degree are eligible to apply.

What is the application deadline?
