CODO requirements listed are for the 2019 catalog term; students following catalog terms prior to 2017 should check with the department for those CODO requirements.

Aeronautics and Astronautics

Majors/Programs:

Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering

General Requirements:

  • Minimum Semesters: 2
  • Minimum Credits: 30
  • Minimum GPA: 3.4

Course Requirements:

Students must complete the following courses with a grade of C- or better:

  • MA 16100 or MA 16500
  • MA 16200 or MA 16600
  • CHM 11500
  • PHYS 17200
  • Oral Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically COM 11400)
  • Written Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically ENGL 10600)

Other Requirements:

  • Students are admitted on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS only.
  • Students must be in good academic standing (not on probation).
  • Students must earn a 3.4 average GPA or higher in any engineering, science, computer science, and math courses completed before CODO.
  • A minimum of 15 credits must be successfully completed in the CODOing semester

First-Year Engineering

Majors/Programs:

First-Year Engineering

General Requirements:

  • Minimum Semesters: 1
  • Minimum Credits: 9
  • Minimum GPA: 2.0

Course Requirements:

To be eligible, a student must complete at least 3 courses (minimum 9 credits) from the following courses, with at least one course for a grade of C- or higher (or for the Spring 2020 semester, a P) from each of the following three categories:

  • Category 1: Any MA courses used on any P-WL Engineering degree requirements list.
  • Category 2: Any BIOL, CHM, CS, or PHYS courses used on any P-WL Engineering degree requirements list.
  • Category 3: An Introductory Engineering course, or a course from one of the following Foundational Outcomes lists: Written Communication, Oral Communication, Humanities, or Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Other Requirements:

  • Submit First-Year Engineering CODO short-answer questions. (Required for Fall 2020 CODO students forward due to COVID-19 grading policy for Spring 2020).  See First-Year Engineering website for more details.
  • Students will be admitted on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS.
  • A CODO GPA will be calculated based on all graded courses from the P-WL campus in Categories 1 and 2, and one graded course from the P-WL campus from Category 3 (see FYE website for information about how the Category 3 course is chosen).  NOTE: If the category 3 course selected was taken for a Pass in Spring 2020, it will not impact the CODO GPA. If more than one course is available in a single category, the course providing the most favorable CODO GPA will be selected.
  • All courses used in the calculation of the CODO GPA must have earned grades of C– or higher. Courses taken P/NP will not be used in calculating the CODO GPA.
  • All courses used to fulfill Category 1, 2, and 3 must be taken on the P-WL campus for a letter grade. For the Spring 2020 semester, a Pass will be accepted in lieu of a letter grade for any Category 1, 2, or 3 course.
  • Students must be in good academic standing (not on probation).

  • Students are admitted on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS only. Meeting the stated requirements does not guarantee admission into ME, rather these are the minimum requirements needed for eligibility. Eligible students will be reviewed holistically and accepted on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS.
  • Students must earn a 3.4 average GPA or higher in any engineering, science, and math courses completed prior to CODO.
  • A minimum of 15 credits must be successfully completed in the CODOing semester.
  • Students on academic probation will not be accepted under any circumstances.

  • Average GPA of 2.5 or better in any Engineering courses (200-level or higher) completed prior to CODO.
  • Semester GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Students on academic probation will not be accepted.
  • Students who are more than 30 credits from graduation must have an overall cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Students requiring 16 to 30 credits to graduate from the MDE program need an overall cumulative 2.55 GPA, and students requiring 15 or less credits to graduate from the MDE program need an overall cumulative 2.4 GPA. Students who have completed all the MDE degree requirements need an overall cumulative GPA of 2.0 (same as applied to students in the program).
