Location Change Information
Current Purdue students who wish to request a change in their primary location should review the following details carefully. Please consider financial aid, housing, and course access prior to making a request. Note that requests for location changes are not guaranteed. It is recommended to speak with your assigned academic advisor about changing locations to determine the best path for you.
Students wishing to request a change of location (COLO) between the Indianapolis and West Lafayette locations while remaining in their current major, please review the information on this page.
Students wishing to request a change of major (CODO) with a location change, please review the CODO website.
The COLO process is only for current Purdue students. If you are a newly admitted student, please contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@purdue.edu or (765) 494-1776 to discuss options for requesting a location change.
Location Change Planning Timeline
Who submits the request: A student's assigned academic advisor will submit the COLO request.
Effective Term: COLO requests can only be submitted during the Spring term and are effective the following fall. For example, a COLO request submitted during the Spring 2027 term will have an effective term of Fall 2027.
Deadline: COLO requests can be submitted as soon as the 7th week of the Spring term and are due by 5 PM ET on the Thursday of Finals Week.
Decision Timing:
- Non-space-restricted majors: Within 5 business days
- Space-restricted majors: Within 3 weeks after the Spring term ends

Students who have previously changed out of their major (CODO Out) are only eligible to return (CODO In) at the campus location where they were originally enrolled in the major. Exceptions require approval from the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and the School Head.

Yes. Students moving to Indianapolis must obtain IU Credentials via the CrimsonCard, which provides access to:
- Printing
- Meal Plans
- Libraries
- Secure building entry
- Parking
Note: No additional credentials are needed for students moving to West Lafayette.
