William E. Griffel
Senior Director of Purdue Musical Organizations

William E. Griffel is the Albert P. Stewart Senior Director of Purdue Musical Organizations and the Jack Calhoun Senior Director of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club. Griffel has served as a guest conductor and collaborator with Purdue University Bands and Orchestras, the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Men's Chorus, Indianapolis Children's Chorus, the Indiana State FFA Chorus, the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, the La Porte Symphony Orchestra and the Fort Wayne Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus and the internationally recognized San Francisco Youth Chorus.
Griffel has traveled both nationally and internationally as a director and performer throughout Europe, the Baltics, the UK, Central America and Australia/New Zealand. He is highly sought after annually as an adjudicator, clinician and vocal coach for choral programs across the United States. As a vocalist, Griffel has performed professionally with some of the most nationally and internationally recognized performing organizations and has been a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society since 1997.
His voice can also be heard on many commercial and professional recordings by some of the most recognizable publishing companies in the United States, such as Warner Brothers, GIA Publications, Hal Leonard Publications, G. Schirmer and Hinshaw Press. Griffel is also a voice talent for commercial and eLearning platforms.
Griffel received his bachelor's degree in music education and vocal performance from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he was recently awarded the “Distinguished Alumni Award” from the Conservatory for the Performing Arts. He received a master's degree with distinction in vocal performance and a performance certificate in vocal performance from DePaul University in Chicago, IL.
In 2015 and 2016, Griffel was selected as a quarterfinalist for the prestigious Grammy's Music Educator Award from the Grammy Foundation in Los Angeles, CA
