The Fellowship Office is a comprehensive support system to aid graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and Purdue staff with all fellowship needs. We help trainees find, apply for, and manage internal (Purdue) and external fellowships. We also provide crucial support to Purdue staff with fellowship administration duties. We aim to foster a proactive funding-application culture supported by training and a streamlined fund-management system. Please do not hesitate to reach out for any questions related to fellowship application or management! For questions related to fellowship administration or internal (Purdue) fellowships, email fellowships@purdue.edu; for questions related to finding or applying for external fellowships, email trainee-funding@purdue.edu.

Our mission is to help international students develop the academic, linguistic, and cultural competencies needed to participate in university life and to compete for graduate school and employment opportunities. To this end, we develop and deliver a range of culturally sensitive and educationally purposeful activities.

As a unit, PLaCE strives to maintain a community of practice that fosters collegiality, values innovation and creativity, and promotes the use of research-based teaching practices. PLaCE instructors have a variety of backgrounds and interests, but all are language educators committed to our students learning and success at the university. Instructors foster a mentoring relationship with students and model effective learning practices for the development of language and cultural competencies.

PLaCE Short Courses were developed for the Graduate Student population to optimize teaching and learning opportunities for busy Purdue students. Enrollment and Placement Information for Students:

  • Short Courses are open to all undergraduate or graduate international students, as well as Visiting Scholars (see enrollment site for more details on the registration process).
  • Short Courses are open to international students at all levels (undergraduate and graduate) but are especially popular with graduate students.
  • Short Courses require no additional fees to enroll.
  • Students self-select the course but are encouraged to contact the instructor or a PLaCE staff member before they enroll in a Short Course so that they find a course that is a good fit for them.
  • Classes are non-credit, are not graded, and do not appear on transcripts; however, students can earn a Certificate of Completion.
