Graduate slate

Slate access is granted to system-wide faculty and staff who have an active role in recruitment and admissions activities at the University. Slate roles are granted based upon core position responsibilities and require authorization from a department approver.

Slate users must complete the following Webcerts prior to gaining access to Slate. Webcerts must be renewed yearly to maintain Slate access:

• Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
• Protecting Social Security Numbers at Purdue University

Slate accounts are inactivated if a faculty/staff member is no longer employed in a position involving recruitment and admissions activities. Slate accounts are inactivated after one year of no activity even if still employed in the position. Be sure to log into Slate periodically to avoid inactivation.

Slate retains prospective student records created from 2015 & forward. Raw application data is available for a period of five years, and supporting documents are available for two years, for non-matriculating students. If exporting data from Slate, proper data handling protocol and guidelines should be followed as described in detail at SecurePurdue Data Handling. Completion of the Webcert for “Data Classification and Handling Educational Resources” is strongly advised.

Slate is not considered an official data repository and should not be used for official University data reporting purposes. Official University data should be requested from Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment at IData Project Requests.

Microsoft Teams Site

The Office of Graduate Admissions manages a Microsoft Teams site called Slate & Graduate Admissions housing both training documents and videos. A discussion board is also available for Slate help. There are comprehensive training documents as well as quick reference guides with simple step-by-step instructions for all things Slate; including how to create queries, Deliver email messaging, conducting faculty review, the recommendation for admissions and signature authority process, etc. Our training materials are located under the Files tab in the Training Folder.

Deliver Email Training

Are you interested in sending automated targeted email messages to your prospective students and applicants? If so, Slate offers a powerful email tool called “Deliver”. The Office of Graduate Admissions offers monthly Deliver training providing hands-on examples of creating and sending email communications. The Office of Graduate Admissions conducts an annual survey with system-wide graduate program heads, chairs, and contacts to collect updates and feedback for the graduate application. During the months of May and June, our Slate team updates the application for changes that go live in production on July 1. Examples of updates made to the application during this time-window include:
