Postdoctoral Affairs Orientation

In addition to general orientation provided to all new Purdue employees and specific orientations your department might have, we offer monthly, virtual sessions to cover three major topics of interest for postdoctoral scholars; these sessions are all held on the 1st Wednesday of each month, though at different times.

Pre-Start Orientation

This session is designed to help new postdoctoral scholars navigate the relocation process. We will share information about Purdue University and our campus locations, connect you with institutional off-campus housing and transportation resources, and help you know how to plug into the Postdoc Community once you arrive. If you are not a new postdoc but have related questions, feel free to join! We hold this workshop on the first Wednesday of every month at 11:00 AM ET. We look forward to meeting you!

Employment-Focus Orientation

This session is designed to help new postdoctoral scholars navigate the onboarding process. We will connect you with institutional employment resources and information and have time to answer questions related to taxes, benefits, and employment policies. If you are not a new postdoc but have employment-related questions, feel free to join! We hold this workshop on the first Wednesday of every month at 2:00 PM ET and you’re free to join as many as you need. Success-Focus Orientation

This session is designed to help postdoctoral scholars set themselves up for training success. We will connect you with institutional training resources, share funding and leadership opportunities, and show you how to develop your own IDP (Individual Development Plan) to create personal training goals and track progress. Purdue Postdocs are encouraged to attend this orientation session within the first three months of starting their position. But this session is for any postdoc who wants to make the most of their training time at Purdue. We hold this workshop on the first Wednesday of every month at 9:00 AM ET and you’re free to join as many as you’d like.
