IBSc Admissions
Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences Program
Applicants interested in the IBSc Ph.D. track should have backgrounds in fields such as biology, biochemistry, chemistry, biophysics, physics, computer science, and pharmaceutical sciences. If your background is in one of these areas or similar, your application is anticipated and encouraged. Students interested in biomedical engineering who have undergraduate or graduate degrees in engineering should apply directly to the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering.
Students interested in applying for the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences (IBSC) Ph.D. program must follow the instructions that follow for submitting the online Purdue University Graduate School application.
- Online application –
- Use Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. Internet Explorer WILL NOT WORK
- If your undergraduate degree is in engineering, choose Biomedical Engineering as ‘Major’
- If your undergraduate degree is non-engineering, choose Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences as ‘Major’ (Ph.D. only)
- $60 application fee paid online via credit card. Please note that the IBSC program does not have the authority to waive the application fee. The Purdue Graduate School will waive the application fee only in certain circumstances listed at Application Fee.

- Statement of purpose
- Three letters of recommendation
- Transcripts: You must upload to the online application transcript(s) and/or academic document(s) for every institution of higher education you attended. The uploaded transcript and/or academic document must be from the official version of the document. An official transcript bears the original signature of the registrar and/or the original seal of the issuing institution. All transcripts and/or academic documents uploaded to the online application system are considered unofficial. You will only need to provide official transcripts and/or academic records if you are admitted and choose to enroll.
- GRE not required and will not be utilized in admissions and funding decisions.

- Transcripts: Same as above plus you must upload an English translation certified by the issuing college or university if the official transcript is not in English.
- Diplomas and certificates – upload copies plus English translations certified by the issuing college or university if the official diploma or certificate is not in English

- Minimum English proficiency requirements as set by the Purdue University Graduate School. See English Proficiency Requirements for a complete list of accepted tests, minimum scores, test score expiration and allowable waivers. Please note that the IBSC program does not have the authority to waive this requirement.

These instructions supersede any others on application sheets, forms, or brochures. All records submitted by and on behalf of an applicant become the property of Purdue University and will not be returned.

The online application must be submitted appropriately, application fee paid and all required documents and information received no later than the applicable deadline in order for the application to be given priority consideration for admission and financial support.
