Animal Armor

Lesson Overview:

Students study different types of arthropods and design 3D printed body armor for stuffed animals based on exoskeletons.  Students will present the 3D product with a tri-fold at the student art show. 

 

Age Level or Subject:

  • 9-12 Biology I or II, Introduction to Engineering & Design, or any Engineering Technology Class

 

Lesson or Unit Objectives:

Students will be able to:

  • Biology students will be able to: Complete the Design Process, identify common insects, correctly write scientific names, design 3 basic drawings of Animal Armors, differentiate between different types of arthropods, research common insects, and present ideas to students and adults.
  • Engineering students will be able to: Complete the design process, optimize drawings of Animal Armors, draw Animal Armors with 3D CAD software, 3D print Animal Armor, & present projects to students and adults, & present projects to students and adults.
