Deepam Patel named associate dean for undergraduate affairs in the College of Science

Deepam Patel, professor of mathematics and director of online programs for the College of Science, has been named associate dean for undergraduate affairs. In this role, he will provide strategic leadership for the college’s undergraduate academic programs, student success initiatives, curriculum innovation and policies that support the educational experience of more than 6,000 undergraduate students across Purdue’s West Lafayette and Indianapolis locations. He will work collaboratively with departments to strengthen student retention and academic success, expand experiential and career-connected learning opportunities, and support clear academic pathways for College of Science students across both locations.
“I am honored to serve the College of Science in this new capacity,” said Patel. “Our undergraduate students are at the center of everything we do. I look forward to working with faculty, staff and students across the college to strengthen opportunities for learning, discovery and engagement while helping every student achieve their academic and professional goals.”
Patel has been a dedicated advocate for student success throughout his Purdue career with Purdue Mathematics. In addition to his faculty responsibilities, he has provided leadership in the development and growth of online and innovative educational programs, helping expand access to Purdue’s world-class science education and supporting student achievement across a variety of learning environments. Patel played an early role in delivering Purdue's mathematics curriculum in Indianapolis in fall 2024, contributing to the development and continued growth of the university's academic presence in the city.

Hovde Dean of the College of Science. “His experience working across disciplines and educational modalities positions him well to lead our undergraduate efforts as we continue to prepare students to think critically, solve complex problems and make meaningful contributions in a rapidly changing world.”
Throughout his career, Patel has worked closely with faculty and staff to enhance student experience and support innovation in teaching and learning. As associate dean, he will partner with departments to advance strategic priorities in undergraduate education, support curriculum development and assessment, and identify opportunities to strengthen academic programs and pathways for student success.
