Sara Cuevas-Quiñones earns Fulbright as Purdue continues streak as top producer

Purdue University has once again been recognized as a top producer of Fulbright students and scholars, marking its fourth consecutive year earning this distinction from the U.S. Department of State.

Among the 14 students and seven faculty members selected for the prestigious Fulbright program in the 2024-25 academic year is Sara Cuevas-Quiñones, a standout scholar from Purdue’s College of Science Cuevas-Quiñones will join a distinguished cohort of Fulbright recipients engaging in international research and cultural exchange.

The program, one of the most competitive and prestigious in the world, provides students and scholars with opportunities to study, teach, and conduct research abroad, fostering global collaboration and understanding.

Cuevas-Quiñones is a Spring 2024 graduate of the College of Science and the John Martinson Honors College with a degree in physics and planetary sciences and a minor in philosophy. She is from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and her career goals include becoming a professor of planetary geophysics. While in Chile, Cuevas-Quiñones is excited to foster ties between her Latin American heritage and her research in geophysics.

With this year’s Fulbright recipients, Purdue remains one of just 13 doctoral institutions nationwide to be recognized as a top producer of both Fulbright students and faculty.
