Bob Beideman

BS ‘83 Applied Statistics, Purdue University
(Nominated by: Nominated by Actuarial Science)

"Purdue provided me with the mathematical, statistical and business acumen to build a successful career as an actuary. More importantly, my ability to serve in leadership roles within various organizations at Purdue helped establish core competencies such as communication, teamwork, project management and leadership."

For more than 25 years, Bob Beideman has utilized his Actuarial Science degree from Purdue in the fields of compensation and consulting. Based in Atlanta, Beideman holds leadership roles for Southern Company and Mercer Human Resource Consulting.

At Mercer, Beideman assists human resource representatives with union negotiations by measuring the impact of potential benefit scenarios and he conducts one-on-one discussions with senior executives concerning non-qualified benefit arrangements. Beideman also consults with clients during the design and implementation of new retirement programs (cash balance plan, savings plan and post-retirement medical). He assists them with cost forecasting, change communication and issue resolution.

Helping clients with their retirement plans is where Beideman excels. He oversees corporate retirement and compensation programs, meeting with senior leadership to ensure competitiveness and cost efficiency.

During his career, Beideman has earned numerous honors and accolades: He is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries as well as a fellow with the Conference of Consulting Actuaries. He is also an associate with the Society of Actuaries.

Beideman makes time to mentor newer actuaries, remembering back to his first years fresh out of Purdue.
