    • Beginner-friendly / Simple / Streamlined
    • Transferable or re-usable
    • ——Efficient
    • —Comprehensive
    • —Auditable & Durable
    • —Performs independent of the user
    • —Can be used anywhere at any time
    • —Make the implicit & hidden explicit & visible
    • —Separate design and shop specific information
  2. Members must engage and participate in good-faith self-learning and peer-learning

Hybrid Instructional Methodology

The Center has adopted the instructional modality of Hybrid as defined by Purdue to meet the need within its resources

Members will learn from Center employees and members using both online and in person learning experiences

Operational Policy by Activity

Member Project Work

  • Area Training / Member Agreement / etc.
    • Members should complete these independently online, either via personal devices or the computers available in the Design Studio (BIDC203)
    • Peer Mentors should have an overview/summary and stay up-to-date
    • Area Supervisors / Graduate Students should perform quality control and direct development of existing area training or agreements as necessary
    • Staff should ensure these meet the requirements of Purdue, and respond to shortcomings, e.g. improving existing or disciplining individuals, etc.
  • Design and / or Academic Skill Capture
    • Members should make good-faith investments of time to self-learn or peer-learn skills as needed from resources provided by the Center
    • Peer Mentors should provide constructive feedback on member progress, designs, etc. via online messages, consultations, etc.
    • Center employees should develop new-, familiarize themselves with existing-, and support members using- resources to enable members to self-learn / peer-learn
  • Consultations
    • Members
      • Must be able to obtain an online consultation from an area within a reasonable period of time
      • In-person consultations are possible as a fallback, however the justification should be recorded via form
    • Peer Mentors
      • Must make themselves available for online consultation, or answering questions, when they have no other assigned tasks.
      • Make good-faith investments of time to learn available resources, and learn how to effectively support and teach peer-learning / self-learning
      • Hold members to account for self-learning / peer-learning and ensure members become independent of employee support
      • Document the consultation for the member and for the Center (to ensure consistency and track usage)
      • Note deficient or missing resources to their area supervisor / graduate
      • Assist other areas as needed
    • Area Supervisors / Graduate Students
      • Schedule area employees to maximize availability during working hours and ensure they are appropriately trained
      • Oversee the training of area employees in both area-specific knowledge, online support and other transferable skills directly related to Center activities
      • Make good-faith investments of time to learn available resources, and learn how to effectively support and teach peer-learning / self-learning
      • Direct the development of and perform quality control on suitable resources to support the Hybrid strategy
      • Observe consultations and other activities to provide constructive feedback and quality control
      • Hold area employees to account for their learning and their implementation of policy
    • Staff should ensure requirements are being met, and respond to shortcomings, e.g. improving existing or disciplining individuals, etc.
  • Use of the Center
