Research Summary:
Our research focuses on enhancing immunotherapy for multiple myeloma by combining radiation therapy (RT) with targeted immune modulation. RT not only kills tumor cells but also releases tumor-associated antigens, boosting immune responses. We utilize FA-TLR7a, a conjugate targeting FRβ-expressing myeloid cells, to modulate tumor-associated macrophages and myeloid-derived suppressor cells, shifting them towards a pro-inflammatory phenotype. Our goal is to synergize RT and immune modulation to achieve a more robust and sustained anti-tumor response, paving the way for more effective and personalized treatments for multiple myeloma.
Why did you choose to attend PULSe:
PULSe is an interdisciplinary program offering rotations in various research fields, providing flexibility to decide on a research focus. The program boasts exceptional professors specializing in cancer research, allowing me to spend nearly two months in their labs, gaining technical skills and deep insights. Rotations also foster friendships and collaborations, offering valuable peer support for future research. PULSe encourages personal development by allowing us to take diverse classes. Additionally, my professors, Dr. Ratliff and Dr. Yang, are incredibly patient and supportive, making the learning process smoother and helping me achieve my goals. This supportive and flexible environment is why I chose PULSe.
