Primary Training Group:

Chemical Biology

Secondary Training Groups:

Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Cancer Biology

Research Areas:

-discovery of bioactive natural products (including antibiotics and anticancer agents) from bacteria -study of the regulation of natural product production by bacteria -study of the mechanisms of action of bioactive natural products -chemical and biocatalytic synthesis of natural products and derivatives

Current Projects:

-Discovery of stressors that induce natural product production -Development of biocatalysts for the cyclization of small peptides -Study of hormones as regulators of natural product production -Actinobacterial hormones and their crosstalk with other bacterial hormones

Importance of Interdisciplinary Research:

In the Parkinson lab, we do a variety of different types of research ranging from chemical/organic synthesis to biosynthesis/biocatalysis to microbiology and more!
