Research Areas:

Mechanisms of protein ubiquitination, protein complex remodeling, and cellular signaling using biochemical, biophysical, cell biological, and quantitative approaches in mammalian and plant systems.

Current Projects:

Our research seeks to understand how dynamic protein interactions regulate cellular function. Current projects investigate the molecular mechanisms of protein ubiquitination, protein complex remodeling, and targeted protein degradation, with an emphasis on cullin-RING ubiquitin ligases (CRLs). We are also exploring how these regulatory mechanisms govern cell fate decisions and developmental plasticity in both mammalian and plant systems. Students in my lab have opportunities to develop and apply biochemical, biophysical, cell biological, proteomic, structural, and imaging approaches to answer fundamental mechanistic questions.

Importance of Interdisciplinary Research:

Modern biological questions often require integrating concepts and approaches from multiple disciplines. Students in our lab are encouraged to think beyond individual techniques and develop a mechanistic understanding of biological systems by combining biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, quantitative proteomics, structural biology, imaging, and chemical biology. Through interdisciplinary training and collaboration, students gain broad technical expertise, strengthen quantitative and critical thinking skills, and develop the scientific independence needed to pursue diverse careers in academia, biotechnology, and the pharmaceutical industry.
