Primary Training Group:
Integrative Neuroscience
Research Areas:
Our research investigates molecular, cellular, and circuit mechanisms of learning and memory, and their disruption in autism, schizophrenia, and stroke using stem cell reprogramming, electrophysiology, behavior, molecular biology, and imaging.
Current Projects:
Memory related oscillations in the visual cortex, hippocampus and prefrontal cortex Neural mechanisms of predictive coding Impaired synaptic plasticity and neural circuits function in Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and schizophrenia Direct reprogramming of astrocytes and stem cells into neurons in stroke and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's Disease
Importance of Interdisciplinary Research:
Our interdisciplinary research bridges neuroscience and engineering to develop and validate cutting-edge technologies for studying brain function. In collaboration with engineers, we are use novel perovskite-based quantum materials for real-time glutamate and dopamine sensing in the awake brain. We also use deep brain single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) to image synaptic ultrastructure within intact neural circuits, enabling unprecedented insight into the molecular organization underlying brain activity and neuropsychiatric disorders.
