Kali Rubaii

Department:

Anthropology

Research:

My research as a cultural anthropologist focuses on displacement, health justice, and the environmental impacts of war, namely in Iraq. Research areas include environmental health justice, reproductive health, militarized ecologies and post-war ecosystems, weapons supply chains, and cement and concrete supply chains.

Current Projects:

The Parts Per Million Project: I lead an interdisciplinary and international team of researchers concerned about multi-generational health effects of environmental exposures from the war industry, including exposure to US military burn pits, mineral mines, and cement factories. Through ethnographic interviews, participant observation, mapping, environmental sampling, tissue sampling, and health surveys, my research informs both public health policy and epistemic justice for war-distressed communities.
