Human Resources Office

We support the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Life through the effective management of our people and by:

  • Providing a clear strategic focus for workforce issues
  • Empowering managers to lead and manage staff effectively
  • Supporting staff and facilitating their professional development
  • Maximizing the office's return on its human resource investment

We are committed to the highest quality of customer service delivered with sensitivity and integrity. We will aspire to serve as role models and leaders in the area of human resources.

Michelle Jansen

Michelle Jansen is a Purdue alumna with a degree in organizational leadership and supervision with over 13 years of human resource experience at the University. Prior to joining the staff at Purdue, she spent 10 years in management and human resources positions for both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. Jansen also is a Purdue Mom. Her daughter, Taylor, is a junior in the College of Agriculture with a dream of becoming a large animal (swine) veterinarian. Jansen likes to boat during the warm months and snowmobile during the cold months,

Services: Partners with Student Life senior leadership to address a variety of workplace issues in a strategic manner that provides tangible value; identifies new opportunities; and provides responsive human resources services in the areas of employee relations, HR policy interpretation, performance management, and training and development for VPSL Administration, Marketing, Strategic Initiatives and Assessment, and Business Office.

She also supports the executive vice president for research and partnerships.

Lauren Ratcliff

Lauren Ratcliff joined Purdue University's Human Resources department in April 2014 as a dual career and relocation specialist, providing job search and relocation assistance to the spouses and partners of faculty members upon their transition to the Greater Lafayette area. Prior to beginning her role at Purdue, Ratcliff worked as a recruiter for a technical staffing agency, as well as in higher education admissions. She holds a bachelor's degree in organizational leadership and supervision from Purdue's Polytechnic Institute. Ratcliff is married and has two daughters, Harper and Hadley. In her free time, she enjoys running, watching Purdue basketball and spending time with family.

Services: Provides responsive human resources services in the areas of employee relations, HR policy interpretation, performance management, and training and development for a portion of University Residences (Dining & Culinary, Residential Life), Purdue Convocations, Hall of Music Productions, Purdue Musical Organizations, Purdue Bands and Orchestras, Purdue Memorial Union, Leadership and Professional Development Initiative, and Student Activities and Organizations.

She also supports areas within the executive vice president for research and partnerships.

Matt Wade

HR Business Partner

Matt Wade joined Purdue University's Human Resources department in 2013 as a benefits service coordinator, where he assisted University employees in benefits enrollment and orientation. In June 2019, he moved to the Human Resources business partner position. Prior to coming to Purdue, Wade spent three years as a stay-at-home dad and 10-plus years working for Federal Express. He is married and has four sons, including one who is a Purdue student and one who is in kindergarten. Matt enjoys spending his free time with his wife and sons, usually running from event to event.

Services: Provides responsive human resources services in the areas of employee relations, HR policy interpretation, performance management, and training and development for a portion of University Residences (Administration, Capital Projects and Facilities) along with the Dean of Students (which includes CAPS, PUSH, and Recreation & Wellness).

He also supports the executive vice president for research and partnerships.

Gabrielle (Gabbi) Hill

Raised a Boilermaker and a proud alumni of the Purdue HTM Program, Gabbi Hill started her professional Purdue career during her final semester of undergrad study, interning in the Student Life HR office. Now serving in talent acquisition for about three years, she is an intro-level sommelier who also loves coffee and traveling.

Services: Provides recruitment for all units and positions within Student Life, Teaching and Learning, Student Success, and Enrollment Management.

Ashley Thompson

Ashley Thompson graduated with a degree in organizational leadership and supervision from Purdue Polytechnic Institute. After graduation, she spent four years as an HR business partner for Wabash National and joined Purdue's Human Resources department as a compensation specialist in October 2015. Thompson has two children, an 8-year-old boy (Az) and 2-year-old girl (Fiona). In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her kids, cooking, painting/art, hiking/kayaking and reading.

Services: Provides compensation and position management (classification) support for all units and positions within Student Life, VP for Public Affairs, Enrollment Management, Teaching and Learning, the Office of the Provost, Purdue Polytechnic Institute, Liberal Arts, Education, the Graduate School, and Honors College.
