Final Exam Scheduling
We prepare the final exam schedule in accordance with policies set by the Educational Policy Committee of the University Senate. Each class is assigned a two-hour meeting time during the 16th week of the session — commonly referred to as the final examination period.
Developing a conflict-free final exam schedule is a significant undertaking. More than 130,000 student class meetings must be scheduled across just 30 prescribed two-hour periods during the 16th week — which is why the schedule is built with three priorities in mind:
- Minimize direct conflicts between exams
- Reduce the number of students with more than two exams in one day
- Reduce the number of back-to-back exams for students
The final exam schedule is available during the following windows:
- Fall term: Mid-September
- Spring term: Early February
- Summer term: Mid-June
Until the final exam schedule is published, students should plan to remain on campus through the end of the final exam period. Check the academic calendar for final exam dates.
Evening Exam Scheduling
Evening exams give departments the flexibility to schedule exams for large multi-division courses and provide additional time beyond the standard 50-minute daytime period — particularly useful for graduate-level courses.
The evening exam schedule is available during the following windows:
- Fall term: Late July through mid-December
- Spring term: Mid-December through early May
- Summer term: Mid-June through late July
