Save the date: Benefits open enrollment for 2020 medical plans to begin Oct. 29

Open enrollment provides an annual opportunity for faculty and staff to review benefit offerings and make choices for the upcoming year. Open enrollment on the West Lafayette, Fort Wayne and Northwest campuses will begin Oct. 29 and end at 6 p.m. ET Nov. 12. 

The same three medical plan options with Anthem -- Purdue Health Plan (PPO), Purdue Health Plan Plus HSA 1 and Purdue Health Plan Plus HSA 2 -- will be offered in 2020; however, the PPO plan is available only to those currently on that plan. Additionally, the Healthy Boiler wellness incentives return for the third year.

New for 2020

In 2020, a smarter approach to health care begins via four new partnerships that all support the Healthy Boiler physical health pillar. They are:

Information specific to each new partnership will continue to be shared as Jan. 1 approaches.

Premiums remain the same as 2019 with exception of the following changes for 2020.

Resources

Enrollment guides (including Spanish and J-1 Visa versions) are available now on the dedicated enrollment webpage and will be emailed to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff on Oct. 29.

This week, live pre-enrollment presentations will be held as outlined below.

* West Lafayette campus

  • 22 (T): Medicare and HSAs (focused on employees approaching age 65), 9-10 a.m., Stewart Center, Room 310.
  • 23 (W): 3-4 p.m., Stewart Center, Room 310.

* Fort Wayne campus

  • 22 (T): 3-4 p.m., Kettler Hall, Room 246.

* PNW Westville campus

  • Today (Oct. 21): 1:30-2:30 p.m., Library Student Faculty Building, Room 170A.

* PNW Hammond campus:

  • 23 (W): 1:30-2:30 p.m., Student Union Library Building, Room 321.

Additionally, throughout the two-week open enrollment period, employees have several tools and resources available to help them navigate the enrollment process, including walk-in labs, videos, recorded presentations. See the “Resources” section of the dedicated open enrollment webpage for details.   

Pre-enrollment tips

As open enrollment approaches, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  1. Set aside time to actively enroll. Be sure to complete enrollment by 6 p.m. ET Nov. 12.  
  2. Remember to review HSA or FSA contributions -- Take advantage of the pre-tax savings.
  3. Review beneficiaries – Open enrollment is the perfect time to review and update beneficiaries.
  4. Don’t stress – Again, there is information already available to help employees and help ensure that the plan best suited for them and their family (if applicable) is chosen.
