Fridays are fabulous in the LGBTQ Center! Every Friday during the academic year, we make Fridays fabulous by inviting the campus community to join us in social and self-care activities, such as crafts, board games, and skills development. Participants can meet new friends, learn more about the LGBTQIA+ community, and de-stress before the weekend.

The LGBTQ Center selected Fridays because it records its highest daily visitation on that day and encounters a number of students who may benefit from accessing community support and resources before the weekend begins. Students are often unaware of how to access campus and community resources, but attending a fun Fabulous Friday event provides them with an opportunity to socialize and ask informed staff members for assistance. During previous Fabulous Friday events, LGBTQ Center staff members and volunteers have assisted students in locating temporary housing, connected students with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), and identified emergency financial resources for students, among many others.
The Fabulous Fridays program is informed by the Positive Youth Development (PYD) approach, which harnesses individual and community assets to enhance resiliency and mitigate the impact of barriers and risk factors. The atmosphere of Fabulous Friday events provides a safe space where students can engage with their peers, staff, and faculty to build supportive relationships and develop a sense of belonging, as well as access primary prevention resources. To learn more, check out Positive Youth Development resources on youth.gov.
