Instructional Material ADA Readiness

New federal regulations have updated existing requirements for web and digital accessibility in public institutions, with a compliance date of April 24, 2026. Please see the ADA Title II Ruling for additional details.

These updates affect digital instructional materials, websites, shared documents, and digital applications — all of which must proactively meet accessibility standards by April 24, 2026.

While creating accessible content is a shared responsibility, Purdue is committed to supporting you with the tools, resources, and guidance needed to achieve this important goal.

As part of Purdue University’s system-wide initiative to support instructors as they transition their course materials in alignment with the new digital accessibility standards issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ) under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Purdue conducted a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a digital content remediation tool that will be integrated into Brightspace and assist instructors in identifying and correcting accessibility issues in instructional materials. The submission process for vendors is closed, and the University is pleased to announce the vendors participating in demonstrations as part of the remediation tool evaluation process.  

The following vendors have been invited to present their remediation solutions:

  • D2L Accessibility+
  • Yuja
  • Anthology Ally

Demonstrations will take place in the middle of January 2026. Faculty, instructors, and staff across all Purdue campuses are encouraged to watch the recordings and provide feedback when released on Mon., Jan. 19. Each session will be approximately two hours long and followed with a feedback survey to ensure all voices are heard before a final selection is made. 

The selected remediation tool will play a critical role in helping Purdue instructors meet the April 2026 compliance deadline for accessible instructional materials. Your participation ensures the chosen solution meets the needs of our diverse teaching environments.

ADA Title II Drop-In Help Sessions – Live, informal support sessions where instructors across all Purdue system campuses (West Lafayette and Indianapolis, Northwest, Fort Wayne, and Purdue Global) can ask questions, troubleshoot challenges, and get personalized advice in real time. The ADA Title II drop-in schedule below will begin on Monday, January 5th and run through Friday, May 8th.  All ADA Title II drop-In sessions can be accessed at this link.

ADA Title II Drop-In Schedule:

  • Mondays, 2-3 pm EST
  • Tuesdays, 11 am-12 noon EST
  • Wednesdays, 1-2 pm EST
  • Thursdays, 3-4 pm EST
  • Fridays, 11 am-12 noon EST

Instructors can now take a self-paced, non-credit, asynchronous Brightspace ADA Accessibility Course. The course, “ADA Title II Instructional Material Readiness,” is available to instructors across all Purdue system campuses, West Lafayette and Indianapolis, Northwest, Fort Wayne, and Global.

This course is designed to guide instructors through accessibility fundamentals and practical implementation strategies. It provides startup resources and guides for instructors seeking to align courses, materials, and media to accessibility standards. Short modules introduce accessibility best practices for Word documents, PowerPoints, PDFs, Brightspace content, media (captions and transcripts), and graphics. These modules may be explored in any order and at your own pace.

To register for and access this non-credit course  
  1. Navigate in a web browser to the Training @ Purdue Catalog, and use the “sign in” button (upper right) to authenticate with your Purdue Career Account.
  2. Once authenticated, you can access the course listing directly through this link or by selecting: Catalog (in top menu bar)>Teaching & Learning>ADA Title II Instructional Material Readiness.
  3. Select “Add to Cart” to begin the registration process.
  4. Choose “Proceed to Checkout” (there is no charge for this course).
  5. Confirm your information details (address, email, phone number) and select “Continue.”
  6. Agree to the “Terms of Use” and select “Continue.”
  7. Select “Submit” to finalize registration.
  8. Wait five minutes for your registration to process then login to Brightspace. Locate the course in your list of courses. The course title will be located under the All filter within My Courses, or you may have to search for the course by its title name: ADA Title II Instructional Material Readiness.
