Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award
The Charles B. Murphy Award, Purdue’s highest undergraduate teaching honor, recognizes up to six recipients (nominated through individual colleges) each year as models in excellent undergraduate education. Faculty with the rank of associate or full professor (including associate and full clinical professor ranks) are eligible.
Exceptional Early Career Teaching Award
The Exceptional Early Career Teaching Award recognizes exceptional undergraduate faculty members with the rank of assistant professor (including assistant clinical professor).
The Exceptional Early Career Teaching Award is granted annually in spring semester. Each College recieves the criteria and call for nominations every fall and each College is responsible for advancing nominees for the Murphy award. Faculty interested in applying for the award should contact their department head and/or College award committee.
Class of 1922 Outstanding Innovation in Helping Students Learn Award
Each year the Class of 1922 alumni sponsors an award for Outstanding Innovation in Helping Students Learn. This award honors a faculty member, graduate student or administrative professional staff member who has improved students’ educational experiences. It specifically promotes innovative teaching practices that contribute to improved learning.
Teaching for Tomorrow Fellowship Awards
Provided by the classes of 1944 and 1945, the Teaching for Tomorrow (TfT) Fellowship Award fosters continued excellence in teaching and learning and facilitates the development of teaching potential. Each year the award recognizes up to 12 assistant professors (or recently promoted associate professors) for demonstrated talent for teaching, as well as three senior faculty members for long-term contributions to teaching and mentoring at the University.
Graduate Teaching Award
Outstanding graduate student teachers are commended for their accomplishments every academic year at the Annual Celebration of Graduate Student Teaching held in the spring. This award ceremony honors graduate students with teaching responsibilities from across campus for their dedication to Purdue undergraduate students and their exceptional teaching contributions. The Celebration is sponsored by the Purdue Teaching Academy and the Office of the Provost.
Book of Great Teachers
The Book of Great Teachers, a permanent display in the west foyer of the Purdue Memorial Union, is an extension of Academy Park. It was dedicated on April 23, 1999. The book bears the names of 316 faculty members, past and present, who have devoted their lives to excellence in teaching and scholarship. They were chosen by their students and their peers as Purdue’s finest educators. The nomination for inclusion in this book is repeated every five years.
Excellence in Instruction Award for Lecturers
As part of Purdue’s commitment to teaching, we are introducing a distinct award for those holding the rank of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer. The purpose of the Excellence in Instruction Award is to honor academic staff with these ranks for outstanding undergraduate teaching on the West Lafayette campus.
Excellence in Online Course Design and Delivery (Credit/Non-Credit)
To recognize faculty and/or staff members who demonstrate course development and pedagogical excellence as the instructor of an online course. These awards recognize professional accomplishment and promote creative and effective approaches to learning that are delivered via online media.
Scholarship of Online Teaching and Learning Award
This award recognizes Purdue system wide faculty and staff members for their exceptional scholarly contributions leading to the advancement and understanding of the impact on teaching and/or learning. In particular, research on the discovery, implementation, and/or evaluation of online-related programs, technologies, methodologies, strategies, or applications to teaching and learning will be the focus of this award.
Innovative Online Use of Technology (Credit/Non-Credit)
To recognize faculty and/or staff members who demonstrate excellence in the development or teaching of an online activity (course, workshop, or seminar). This award is intended to recognize accomplishment in innovation and use of technology in online media.
