Exploratory Pre-medicine and Health at Indianapolis

Exploratory Pre-medicine and Health is a new major offering for students interested in exploring health-related majors. This one-year program is currently offered at our Indianapolis campus.

One Year to Explore

During the first semester, all students in this program will take a 2-credit Exploratory Pre-medicine and Health course. This specialized course is designed to help students identify a major to transition into such as Biology or Biomedical Engineering. It will focus on the process of pre-health major and career exploration through the analysis of personality and career assessments, major and career research, personal reflection, and group discussion. Additional first-year coursework will also help you gain foundational coursework in math, chemistry, and biology (sample plan of study below).

In addition to the Exploratory Pre-medicine and Health course, students can engage with research, clinical, and leadership opportunities throughout their undergraduate experience.

  • Undergraduate research: Students in the capital city have access to healthcare ecosystem and health-related research. From First Time Researchers to Indy Explorers, students can find programming that fits their interests.
  • Clinical experience: Students can expand their network beyond their coursework and engage with healthcare partners here in the city. Current programs include (IN)SCRIBE and Clinical Immersion options.
  • Leadership development: Health-related student organizations are one way that students interested in healthcare professions have opportunities for leadership experiences. Example student organizations include Biomedical Engineering Society, BioForge, and Purdue in Indianapolis Medical Association - PiMed.
