Transfer Students

When transferring from Purdue University in West Lafayette or Indianapolis to another institution, follow the instructions below to transfer your existing financial aid.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Information can be forwarded to another University by going online. You’ll need your new institutions school code to send aid over. They’ll determine eligibility for need-based aid using the FAFSA. They may also request documents to verify FAFSA data, but please only send verification documents if requested. Forward your FAFSA information on the Federal Student Aid website.

Health Professions Student Loan Program (HPSL) Loan

If you’ve received a Health Professions Student Loan Program (HPSL) loan, contact our office and request that we cancel the second disbursement of your loan. You’ll have to contact your new institution regarding fund availability there.

Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE) Award

If you have an award from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE), contact them directly to change your school choice; this can be done online on your ScholarTrack account.

Private Award Scholarship

If you have a scholarship awarded to you from a private award donor (other than from Purdue), contact the donor to determine if the award can be used at your new university, and notify them that you will be attending the new school so they can forward any awards.

Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Educational Loan

If you have received the first disbursement of a Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Educational Loan at Purdue, contact our office and request that we cancel the second disbursement of your loan, and notify your loan servicer. You’ll have to reapply for remaining loan eligibility at your new institution.

Temporary Transfer to a Regional Campus

If you want to transfer from our West Lafayette or Indianapolis locations to a regional campus on a temporary basis, consult with the regional campus admissions office regarding admission to a degree program. If this is not possible, consult with a financial aid counselor.

Students seeking a degree at Purdue University who plan to enroll at a Purdue regional campus on a temporary basis for fall or spring may be eligible to receive federal financial aid through Purdue.

All fee dedicated aid, such as CVO fee remissions and staff dependent fee remissions, will be processed by the regional campus you will be attending. If a separate application and/or documentation is required, it must be submitted to the regional campus. 

Requirements

Students temporarily attending a regional campus are ONLY eligible for Federal financial aid.

• Federal Pell Grant (if eligible) 
• Federal Direct Loan 
• Federal Parent/Graduate PLUS Loan (separate application required) 

At least half-time enrollment is required for the use of Federal Direct and PLUS Loans. 

• For undergraduate students, at least six credit hours is half-time. 
• For graduate and professional students, at least four credit hours is half-time. 

All students must have the following information on file before aid can be processed:

• A 2025-26 FAFSA, unless only private loans will be utilized.
• Any documentation required to complete the 2025-26 FAFSA file. The Division of Financial Aid (DFA) will notify students of any requests for additional information, such as a student’s or parent’s tax return transcript. Do not submit information to DFA unless requested to do so by our office. 
• A Regional Campus Temporary Transfer Aid Application completed and signed by both the student and Purdue University academic advisor (see link below under “Other Important Information”). 
• Ensure you have completed the correct Intercampus TEMPORARY Transfer Admissions application at the regional campus you plan to attend for fall or spring.

Other Important Information

• You must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements. 
• Financial aid is based on the number of credit hours in which a student is enrolled and has initiated course participation as of the end of the sixth week of classes. Check out more information about initial course participation.
• The process to receive financial aid as a Purdue University Temporary Regional Campus transfer student can take four to six weeks once the application is submitted. Financial aid will be disbursed to the student, and the student is responsible for paying the host institution (regional campus) with the financial aid refund they receive.

At any time a student changes enrollment while temporarily attending a regional campus and is receiving aid for that attendance through Purdue University, the student is responsible for notifiying both Financial Aid offices of that enrollment change.

Once available, download and complete the Regional Campus Temporary Transfer Aid Application. Return the completed and signed application to the Division of Financial Aid at Purdue West Lafayette/Indianapolis. Processing will take approximately four to six weeks from the time our office receives the application.
