Metal working

Machining is a controlled subtractive manufacturing process which can be used to create high precision parts. Milling uses rotating cutting tools that move around the part removing material to create a variety of features. Turning on a lathe spins the part and moves static cutting tools along to create cylindrical profiles. Drilling is the most basic process and can be performed on both mills and lathes to drill round holes.

Our CNC machines use computers to control the movement of the machine to create parts more effectively than possible by hand. The Bechtel Center also offers 5-axis milling and live tooling turning capabilities to allow more complex parts to be made.

80/20 Aluminum T-Slot
Structural Framing

Summary

As 80/20 T-slot structural framing is a product the Center purchases through gifts or other resources it requires stewardship to maximize the impact of the purchases. This workflow implements appropriate stewardship by:

  • Fairly offering the opportunity
  • Ensuring existing employees are made aware of the opportunity and its costs
  • Maximizing its impact via design reviews
  • Potentially suggesting convenient or low-cost alternatives
  • Teaching and ensuring best-practice design
  • Minimizing the costs to support the project
80/20 Stock

Profile

The Center has the following profiles in stock, with a possible maximum length of 140″

  • 1″ × 1″
  • 1″ × 2″
  • 1.5″ × 1.5″
  • 1.5″ × 3″
  • 2″ × 2″

Hardware/Fasteners

Due to the wide variety of hardware and fasteners the Center is unable to stock these, ensure you order appropriate fasteners.

staff review

Please setup a meeting with Manager / Tech Services to schedule a review of your 80-20 design. For review:

  • A CAD model/design showing the 80-20 w. joints and what is being mounted
  • The 80-20 cut list/BOM
