Celebrating our devoted dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

As we approach National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (April 14-20), I invite you to join me in recognizing the dedication of our public safety dispatchers. This yearly observance is a chance to express our gratitude to these essential team members who are pivotal in delivering reliable emergency services. As the initial point of contact in times of crisis, their composure and guidance are often lifesaving. Despite the inherent stress of their roles, they have honed the skills necessary to navigate intense situations.

Here at Purdue, we’re privileged to have such a committed group of individuals who work tirelessly around the clock to ensure our campus remains safe. They not only answer 911 calls and dispatch emergency services, but they also carry out many other tasks. Some of these tasks include activating the campus all-hazard warning system (PurdueALERT), monitoring security systems, and providing coordination efforts with local, state and federal agencies.

I encourage you to take a moment to acknowledge the relentless efforts of our public safety dispatchers. Their unwavering dedication and commitment to safeguarding the Boilermaker community are invaluable. Let’s ensure they know their hard work does not go unnoticed, not just during this special week, but all year round.

Sincerely,
Jay Wasson, Vice President for Physical Facilities and Chief Public Safety Officer
