ITaP shares tips on how to prevent malware attacks, encourages users to be vigilant

ITaP is encouraging all Purdue employees to be alert for unusual emails or text messages, especially from new or unknown individuals or accounts, in order to protect again malware attacks. Suspicious emails or discussions that are not initiated by employees should be treated with caution.

To help prevent malware attacks, ITaP provides the following tips:

  • Do not click on website advertisements, install third-party browser extensions or continue to a website if a browser security alert is present.
  • Do not click on or open attachments from suspicious email addresses, even if it seems to be from someone familiar. If there is uncertainty, call the individual to confirm that they sent the email.
  • Use the “Report Message” feature in Outlook to send possible phishing or spam messages for review. This is located on the mail home tab, in the top right corner. Similar spam messages will be blocked in the future to help prevent others from being targeted.
