Purdue is preparing online classes for those who are unable to secure a U.S. student visa for the fall semester and/or are unable to travel to West Lafayette, Indiana.

What will Boiler Gold Rush (BGR) and Boiler Gold Rush International (BGRi) be like in-person?

Purdue plans to deliver Boiler Gold Rush (BGR) this Fall as it has for over twenty-five years. Boiler Gold Rush International (BGRi) content will be delivered during the week of BGR from August 18 to 22. Although the purposes of these programs will remain the same, there will be necessary modifications made to support Protect Purdue. For example, with restrictions in place regarding gatherings over 150, BGR and BGRi will adjust the structure to allow for interactions among smaller groups of students. The duration of BGR is planned to be similar to past years. More details about the program are expected to be announced publicly mid-June.

Can I still be involved in Boiler Gold Rush (BGR) or Boiler Gold Rush International (BGRi) as an online student?

Yes. Incoming students who select the online learning option for Fall 2020 will be able to participate in elements of BGR and BGRi. Students will need to register, but will not be charged a fee. More details about the online program are expected to be announced publicly at a later date.

Other Questions

If things get better or my embassy begins accepting appointments, can I get an I-20 for fall?

With the suspension of normal visa processing, the closing of U.S. embassies and consulates around the globe, and current travel restrictions to the United States, it will be a great challenge for our students from abroad to safely arrive on campus in time to begin the fall semester. Therefore, Purdue University has suspended issuing visa eligibility documents to new beginning undergraduate students (I-20/DS-2019) for the fall 2020 semester.

If you believe you will be able to obtain a visa for the fall 2020 semester, please email iss@purdue.edu for more information.

What do I need to be able to participate in virtual orientation events?

Access to reliable internet and a quiet and comfortable space to engage with our online content is needed to participate in virtual orientation events.
