Gradescope Guidelines and Cover Page Examples

**TO AVOID DELAYS in processing, please follow the guidelines below**

  1. Printing and Paper:
    • Print exams on white paper. If color paper is necessary, use light colors.
    • Use color paper for extra pages where students show their work. Please keep the exams with extra pages separate as they need to be scanned and added to Gradescope separately.
  2. Cover Page:
    • Each exam needs a cover page with the student’s name, PUID, course, and instructor name. Examples are available on the IDP website.
    • One-page exams do not need a cover page, but the student’s name and PUID must appear near the top of all pages.
  3. Student Workspace:
    • Use the website provided Scratch Page for student workspace instead of blank pages. Pages without sufficient coverage will not scan properly.
  4. Exam Format:
    • Exams can be single or double-sided. Ensure sufficient print on both sides if double-sided.
    • Include page numbers on all pages.
    • Staple exam pages in the upper left-hand corner as close to the corner as possible.
  5. Gradescope Setup:
    • The exam template in Gradescope must match the student exam exactly.
    • Update the roster before dropping off exams at IDP.
    • Add IDP Staff to your roster with the role of “TA” (First Name: IDP, Last Name: Staff, Email: idp@purdue.edu).
  6. Multiple Choice Exams:
    • Use the bubble sheet template provided by Gradescope for multiple choice exams (Bubble Sheet Assignments).
    • Ensure that the answer key is defined for all Bubble Sheet assignment versions prior to dropping off exams with IDP.
    • Separate multiple choice and short response portions and submit as two separate exams.
  7. Submission and Pickup:
    • Submit an IDP Gradescope request form with student exams. You must include a count of exams being scanned on the form.
    • Remove formula pages before submitting exams.
    • Late exams can be scanned and added to Gradescope.
    • IDP will contact you upon completion for exam pickup.

Please email idp@purdue.edu if you have specific questions about our scanning service or need further assistance.
