I-9 Resources

Proof of Identity and Work Eligibility

All employees working in the United States are required to complete the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. Employment is contingent upon the new hire submitting proof of their identity and eligibility to work in the United States.

Section 1 of the Form I-9 must be completed prior to the hire date. Prior to the hire date, new hires should receive an email titled “Welcome Letter” from Purdue HR, which will include a link to complete some of the onboarding documents electronically, including the Section 1 of the Form I-9.

Section 2 of the Form I-9 requires to physically present original and unexpired document(s) from the List of Acceptable Documents in person and must be completed no later than the third business day from the hire date.

This documentation cannot be a photocopy, a screenshot or only accessible via the individual's phone or iPad.

New hires can schedule an appointment with an I-9 Verifier through their local Employment (Payroll) Center. It is a best practice to complete the Form I-9 by the first day of employment to avoid disruption. If the new hire does not provide proof of their identity and work authorization by the third business day from the hire date, they will be terminated.
