Workshops

Workshops at Bechtel Innovation Design Center give students the opportunity to practice and perfect machining skills that they can apply to academic or personal projects. These workshops are open to anyone who wants to participate, and there is no training required. Join our discord and check out the workshops channel to learn about and sign up for workshops!

Sample workshops

Simple Dorm Gadgets Workkshop

This workshop allows students to create a simple dorm gadget (phone holder, napkin holder, etc) out of horseshoes and round stock, learning how to MIG weld and think outside of the box with metal working.

Pine Derby Car Workshop

Students will learn about basic woodworking by crafting pinewood derby cars using a variety of machines.

Simon Says Workshop

This workshop teaches basic through-hole soldering by building a basic “simon says” game. Students learn about soldering safety and effective soldering techniques, and get to take home a fun game and keepsake.

Pajama Pants Workshop

This workshop gives students the opportunity to practice using sewing machines by making their own pair of pajama pants.

Chess Piece Workshop

Students will learn to make chess pieces using provided CAM and CAD and learn how different machines work

Forged Rose Workshop

Students will learn to forge by making roses out of steel plates.
