Wednesday, April 26 is Purdue’s annual Day of Giving

On Purdue’s Day of Giving (PDOG), the Purdue community in West Lafayette, across the country, and around the globe will come together for Purdue Day of Giving. Join us to engage and contribute to making an enormous impact.  The Purdue Parent and Family Connections Advisory Board awards grants to Student Life organizations and clubs that improve and enhance the Purdue experience.

Purdue's Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

The Purdue Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center will be observing Asian Pacific American Heritage Month during the months of April and May. To celebrate, the AAARCC will share stories of Asian American, Asian and Pacific Islander Boilermakers to highlight their early and ongoing positive impact on our campus community and beyond. This year's theme is “Asian/Pacific/Americans in Indiana and the Midwest,” highlighting local history, regional history and lived experiences. Read more.

Spring Fest is an annual event showcasing the lighter side of higher education. This free event is a great opportunity for students of all ages to learn about animals, art, astronomy, and much more with lots of hands-on activities. Researchers in biology, education and engineering receive recognition for exceptional scholarly achievement

Three Purdue professors whose research has profoundly influenced and advanced their fields have been chosen to receive the university’s most prestigious research and scholarship awards. Their accomplishments will be celebrated at the annual Excellence in Research Awards ceremony at 3 p.m., April 6, at the Purdue Memorial Union. The event also will feature three lectures highlighting the research being recognized. Now's the time to Think Summer 

Is your student interested in living on campus for a portion of the summer? Purdue offers housing contracts ranging from 4 weeks to 12 weeks in length and the Purdue Student Union Board will be hosting more than 25 student events. More information about summer housing contracts can be found on the University Residences website. If your student can’t make it to campus, more than 400 online courses are available. Questions about summer enrollment can be sent to thinksummer@purdue.edu.

Purdue’s College of Agriculture rises in national and international rankings

Purdue University’s College of Agriculture has been recognized as the No. 3 college of agriculture in North America and No. 5 in the world in the 2023 QS World University Rankings. Inaugurated in 2004, QS World Rankings are one of the world’s most frequented and respected sources of comparative data about universities. In 2022, Purdue Agriculture was identified as No. 4 in North America, and No. 8 in the world. Read more.

Ericsson, Saab and Purdue University announce ‘lab to life’ innovative 5G network to make Purdue Airport accessible as a real-life research site for aviation industry

Purdue University Airport, in collaboration with industry partners Ericsson and Saab, announced Monday (March 20) the creation of a unique 5G network that will serve as a “lab to life” proving ground for academics, researchers and business to develop commercial solutions that can be replicated to improve operations and security at airports of all sizes. 5G innovation has promised to provide a new generation of capabilities for enterprises. This project aims to bring to life the benefits of private 5G for airports, where new high-performance networks can be tested in real-life scenarios. Read more.

U.S.-Brazil roundtable brings together DOE, Purdue and Brazilian universities to highlight ongoing collaborations

A Department of Energy team, led by U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk, together with National Science Foundation representatives from its Engineering Education and Centers division and Purdue partners met in March at the University of São Paulo Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo to highlight Brazil-U.S. collaborations in the area of energy. A conversation with Brian Lamb and Edna Greene Medford

Edna Greene Medford, vice president of the Abraham Lincoln Institute and professor emeritus at Howard University, will be the featured guest for the CCSE Conversation with Brian Lamb. The event, hosted by the Center for C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement and the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging at Purdue, will take place on April 5 in Stewart Center’s Fowler Hall. Purdue receives $20 million commitment from alum Sassola for new pharmacy leadership academy

The Purdue University College of Pharmacy has received a $20 million commitment from alumnus Marcel Sassola III to establish a new leadership academy that will expand the college’s offerings and prepare a new pipeline of pharmacy graduates to innovate and lead in an ever-changing health care landscape.

The Marcel Sassola III Leaders and Entrepreneurs Advancing Pharmacy (LEAP) Academy will be modeled after the successful Larsen Leaders Academy in the university’s Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. School of Business, and will focus on strengthening leadership and entrepreneurship among Purdue pharmacy students. Read more

Purdue’s ‘world’s whitest paint’ wins 2023 SXSW Innovation Award

The world’s whitest paint, developed by Purdue University researchers and recognized in Guinness World Records, has been named winner of the 2023 Innovation Award in the sustainability category by South by Southwest Conference & Festivals (SXSW).

The award “recognizes the most exciting creative developments in the connected world,” and was presented to Purdue on Monday (March 13) at the 25th annual SXSW Innovation Awards Ceremony in Austin, Texas. Purdue was chosen in the sustainability category from among four finalists that included Purdue; Indianapolis-based Atarraya: Sustainable Shrimp-Farming Tech; The Trees of the Future, based in Hayward, California; and Chicago-based Natures Fynd: Fy Protein.

The paint, developed by Purdue professor of mechanical engineering Xiulin Ruan, is fighting global warming by keeping surfaces cool enough to reduce the need for internal air conditioning. SXSW is the latest to recognize the innovation, which was previously featured on PBS NewsHour and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Earlier this month, the paint was named winner of the 2023 Gizmodo Science Fair. Read more.

Alumni or Graduation Gift: A Book that Commemorates the History of Purdue's Fraternity, Sorority, and Cooperative Life Community 

A new book, "Pledge and Promise: Celebrating the Bond and Heritage of Fraternity, Sorority and Cooperative Life at Purdue University," by author Angie Klink, is now available for purchase through Hall of Music Productions. The book commemorates the rich history of Purdue's fraternity, sorority, and cooperative life organizations through stories and a rich collection of more than 250 photos.
