Boiler Gold Rush FAQ

What activities take place during Boiler Gold Rush?

We have all sorts of activities planned for the program. You will be busy from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on most days. Some of the highlights of BGR 2019 include: Boiler Up Rally with Purdue athletics, Boiler Bridge Bash with community businesses and giveaways, B-Involved Fair with student organizations, and a trip to Meijer for fun and games.

Are there any events for parents or guests?

Parent and Family Connections will host several events for Parents and Guests on BGR move-in dates. Please make sure your family and guests are aware of these opportunities. There is no registration required. Find more information on the Parent and Family Connections website.

What should I wear during Boiler Gold Rush?

You will be doing a lot of walking throughout the week, so you will want to wear comfortable shoes. August in Indiana is often very hot in the summer, so be sure to wear shorts and T-shirts. Be sure to wear things that allow you to participate in a variety of activities.

If I am living off-campus, will I be in a group with other off-campus students?

Yes. Students are grouped according to living arrangements to create community.

If I am living in a University residence hall, will I be in a group with my roommate?

Potentially. Teams are created at random based on your area of living. You will have peers on your team from your residence hall and halls close to yours. You may even have some off-campus students, too! It’s important to meet and greet with all kinds of peers during BGR.

Will I need extra money for Boiler Gold Rush?

There are no additional costs associated with the BGR program, unless you choose to purchase personal items.

Where do I park during Boiler Gold Rush if I am living off campus?

When you arrive for check-in, you will park at the Ross Ade Stadium North or "R" Lot. During the week of BGR, you can park at the Recreational Sports Center or Ross Ade parking lots. Parking permits are relaxed in these two locations during the week of BGR (so you will not need a parking permit to park in these two locations). Once you meet your team leader, you will identify spots each day to meet up with your team!

How do I get a parking permit for the school year?

Check out the parking website for your options or drop by to ask any questions after you check-in. (Parking Services, Materials Management and Distribution Center, 700 Ahlers Dr, West Lafayette, IN 47907).

When do my meals start? Who do I eat with?

Meal swipes for Boiler Gold Rush participants begin at 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11. You must have your PUID to get into the dining court. Once you are checked in to BGR, you will be required to go to a specific dining court based on your wristband color. You will get more information on this when you check-in.

You will meet your team leader Tuesday night after dinner at Meet the Teams. Starting Wednesday, you will eat with your team leader and team. You will receive your Meet the Team information when you check-in to BGR.

Keep in mind your meals are included in the BGR fee, so if you bring anyone with you on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday they will pay the following at the door of the dining court (with tax included):

  • Breakfast: $8.03
  • Lunch: $12.31
  • Dinner: $12.73
What should I do before I arrive for BGR?

Besides packing and preparing for the start of school, you will need to complete the Pre-Arrival Homework in Blackboard (available in late July). All topics will be discussed during BGR; however, there is one topic that directed you to do an assessment. Did you complete the myStrengths Assessment in the Leadership and Professional Development section? If not, please do before you arrive to BGR. You do not want to be the only one in your team who did not complete it!
