Centennial Celebration: Inside the Capsule
The centennial’s pinnacle event, PMU Centennial Celebration: Inside the Capsule, took place Tuesday, Sep. 17, in the Great Hall. Sponsored in part by the Union Club Hotel, the program featured remarks from Purdue President Mung Chiang, including reflections from former Presidents Mitchell E. Daniels and France A. Córdova, along with comments from former President Martin C. Jischke and other union leaders. Guests viewed the contents of the 1922 cornerstone time capsule and items selected for a new capsule representing the present day. The ceremony concluded with a ceremonial bell‑ringing, after which the Main Lounges became a walking museum of archival photos, artifacts and displays. Attendees enjoyed refreshments in Room 118 and were among the first to be able to purchase Purdue Memorial Union: The First 100 Years.
