- NUR 678: Healthcare Economics and Financing (3 credits)
Examines healthcare financing and reimbursement structures, budgeting and resource allocation, and methods for financial analysis (e.g., cost-effectiveness and cost–benefit) to support sustainable, data-informed decisions in healthcare organizations. - NUR 632: Health Policy: Local to Global (3 credits)
Analyzes how health policy is developed, implemented and evaluated across local, national and global contexts. Emphasizes ethics, equity, advocacy and the leadership roles of health professionals in shaping policy and regulatory environments. - NUR 674: Quality Initiatives and Advanced Practice (2 credits) – Available Summer 2027
Focuses on leading quality and safety initiatives using evidence, measurement and change management. Addresses implementation strategies, stakeholder engagement and interprofessional collaboration to improve reliability and outcomes across healthcare settings.
ELECTIVE Courses (3 credits, choose one):
- NUR 586: Applied Informatics and Emerging Technologies in Healthcare (3 credits) – Available Spring 2027
Provides foundational health informatics knowledge essential for optimizing health information systems and data analytics in clinical and/or operational practices. Explores how health information systems, data analytics and emerging technologies support interprofessional communication, evidence-based decision-making and improve healthcare delivery. - NUR 642: Systems Thinking and Process Improvement in Healthcare (3 credits) – Available Summer 2027
Applies systems thinking and improvement methods to analyze and redesign care delivery processes. Emphasizes workflow mapping, variation reduction, reliability principles, human factors and measurement strategies to improve quality, safety and operational performance in interdisciplinary healthcare environments.

The Healthcare Systems Innovation and Quality Graduate Certificate has the following admission requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Current resume.
- Official transcripts from all universities attended must be submitted in the original language, along with English translations for any transcripts and diplomas not originally in English.
- Applicants must apply for the School of Nursing Online Graduate Certificate through the Purdue Graduate School’s online application, even if currently enrolled at Purdue University.
- An application fee.
- New students may be admitted to only one graduate certificate program in their first semester.
- The GMAT and TOEFL requirements are waived for Online Graduate Certificate applicants.
